updated instructions - XBasic for
Windows95/98/NT
First, go to http://www.maxreason.com/software/xbasic/xbasic.html
and download the most up-to-date release of XBasic for Windows
in a single self-extracting archive file named xbpro.exe or xbpro.zip. If you download with Internet Explorer, you can
download the xbpro.exe file directly. Otherwise download xbpro.zip then rename it to
xbpro.exe once download is complete. Note: xbpro.exe and xbpro.zip are exactly the
same file, but most browsers destroy files with .exe extents by adding a 0x0D byte before
every 0x0A byte - Netscape included.
To install XBasic, put the xbpro.exe self-extracting archive file into the root directory of one of your hard drives (as in c:\ or d:\ or e:\) and execute the file. Be sure to select "recreate directories". XBasic will install itself into x:\xb where x: is the name of the hard-drive you choose. Finally, start Windows Explorer, get into directory x:\xb, and drag and drop xb.exe onto your desktop to create an XBasic shortcut icon. Note that XBasic MUST reside in the \xb directory of some hard-drive to operate properly. I have been told you can put it elsewhere if you establish directory \xb as an alias for other directories, but I have not confirmed this or know how it works.
updated instructions - XBasic for Linux
First, go to http://www.maxreason.com/software/xbasic/xbasic.html
and download the most up-to-date release of XBasic for Linux
in a single ZIP format archive file named xblinux.zip.
To install XBasic, put the xblinux.zip file into the Linux root directory ( / ) and extract with a pkware zip program. Be sure to select "recreate directories" if prompted and given that option. This installs the XBasic executable into \usr\bin and all other XBasic files into directory \usr\xb. Put an XBasic icon on your desktop for easy startup. XBasic depends on XWindows, so XWindows must be currently active before you start XBasic.
